Preserving and improving an existing green space within La Salle is the focus of an ongoing project undertaken by local volunteers.
A committee is now asking local residents for their ideas on what they’d like to see happen to the space along PR 247 between Main Street and Prairieview Drive.
Member Julie Martinussen said a meeting with RM of Macdonald council is planned for later this month to hopefully begin developing a plan for this open space, which now just contains a baseball backstop.
The La Salle Greenspace project began in May 2012 when residents living close to the area were informed by the municipality of a public hearing relating to a rezoning application.
"We rallied together to let the RM know we wanted to keep our green space," Martinussen said.
Council later advised them that rezoning wouldn’t go ahead. Since that time, interested residents held a hotdog sale which raised a small amount of money.
Martinussen said the committee will go through all the ideas submitted by residents and then share them with council.
"I think the big thing is that people do care about recreation and green space," she said.
