Support Transcona events and businesses

Hey there, time traveller!
This article was published 27/07/2020 (797 days ago), so information in it may no longer be current.

During this time of COVID-19, community events have been curtailed, re-planned or just cancelled.

Having grown up in Transcona, I always look forward to the many community gatherings planned by our volunteer organizations. Like everyone, I can’t wait for the day when we can once more stroll down Regent Avenue enjoying the Hi Neighbour Festival or when we can swap stories and catch up with at the Transcona BIZ’s Market Gardens.

The BIZ is holding its annual community cleanup this until July 31 and they are hoping for a big turnout from Transcona residents.

Building on past cleanups, Transcona went from last on Take Pride Winnipeg Litter Index to the cleanest community in Winnipeg in 2017. The 2019 clean-up event was also the largest in Winnipeg, so let’s keep this going.

You can register as an individual or you can organize your friends and family and register as a team. I hope to see everyone out there so we can help keep Transcona beautiful.

I would also like to take this opportunity to encourage everyone to continue supporting our local businesses.

As you are no doubt aware, COVID-19 has had a detrimental impact on many of our local business establishments. The provincial government has not done enough to support small businesses. What they need is direct rent relief and money for personal protective equipment in order to help restart our economy and make sure jobs provided by local business continue to be there for Manitobans.

I would like to urge all Transcona residents to patronize the many small businesses located here in our community. In Transcona we have restaurants, butchers, barber shops and hair salons, lumber stores and other small retail stores that would greatly appreciate our business.

At least once a week, my family and I order in from one of the many restaurants located in our constituency and I would encourage you to do the same if your family is able.

Finally, our constituency office is now open. We are located at 127 Regent Ave. West. Our phone number is 204-594-2025 or you can reach me by email,
