The owners of Inspired Comfort hope to live up to their name, starting at the point a customer first strolls through their door.
James Friesen, 32, and Erny Penner, 29, have been working in cabinetry for years with various outfits around town, and have done everything from crafting cabinets to selling them.
"We want people to know when they come in here that it’s a different experience," Friesen said. "We want them to feel welcome in our showroom. We don’t have concrete floors, it feels welcoming."
After owning Budget Blinds together, Inspired Comfort (854 Nairn Ave.) is the second joint business venture for Friesen and Penner. Being back in their proverbial wheelhouse is a boon for the two, as they seek to provide as many options to consumers as possible. In addition to stock and custom cabinets, the business offers semi-custom cabinets, allowing for different colours of product, as well as options like trash bins and lazy Susans to make the kitchen more functional.
"We know the market really well. We have a lot of connections in the cabinet industry," Friesen said, noting that between he, Penner, and two other staff members, the company boasts over 70 years of industry experience. "We wanted to get into every aspect of the industry as well — not just custom, not just stock, we wanted to cover every part of the market."
Friesen said he and Penner have developed a rapport with others in the industry after years of working in it, and have a handle on the people and firms they like to work with most.
"We’ve really narrowed down suppliers to people we trust. It’s not like we have five granite suppliers (for example)," he said.
The business is already looking toward the future, as it is already looking at expansion into the Brandon market.
"We want to be the place to go for anybody wanting anything to do for kitchen or bath cabinets," Penner said. "Our goal is that when a customer thinks ‘Inspired Comfort,’ they think they’re getting their dollar’s worth as far as a good value, and an excellent-quality product."
In addition to the cabinets, the business also offers services like site evaluation, blueprint creation, and kitchen designing, as well as construction services like plumbing, electrical work, and kitchen installation.
