KidSport Winnipeg and Winnipeg Jet Mark Scheifele announced the First Annual Mark Scheifele Hockey Camp and Golf Tournament will take place June 20 to 22, 2015.
The First Annual Mark Scheifele Hockey Camp will take place Sat., June 20 and Sun., June 21 at Gateway Arena (1717 Gateway Rd.). It is open to boys and girls aged five to 12 and features both skater and goalie specific training sessions. Scheifele, along with expert coaches from The Rink and GDI Goaltending, will provide kids with introductory and advanced on-ice and dryland training focusing on skill development, skating progression, and puck handling.
"I’m looking forward to the hockey camp and golf tournament in June," said Scheifele in a statement. "It will be fun to get out on the ice with young players and work with them on developing their skills."
The First Annual Mark Scheifele Golf Tournament will be held Mon., June 22 at Niakwa Country Club (620 Niakwa Rd.) The tournament includes lunch, an 18-hole round of golf, and a banquet dinner for participants and sponsors.
"It will be a great opportunity to meet some of Winnipeg’s most enthusiastic golfers," Scheifele said in a statement.
"Growing up, sport were a huge part of my life and by working with KidSport Winnipeg on these events we can help give other kids the chance to participate in sports and be part of the team."
Both events are in support of KidSport Winnipeg.
"Ensuring all kids are exposed to the many benefits associated with sport is our mandate," Matt Erhard, chair of the Winnipeg Region KidSport committee, said in a statement. "The camp will provide an incredible opportunity for young hockey players to meet and learn from Mark, and both events will also raise much-needed funds to ensure we can continue to help those who need it most and that all kids can play."
Registration for both events is now open. More information can be found at kidsportcanada.ca/manitoba/winnipeg
