The sweet sounds of summer will soon be emanating from Provencher Boulevard.

Festival du Voyageur and Provencher Boulevard BIZ recently announced a new series of free musical concerts — Mercredis en musique — that will run every Wednesday from July 3 to Aug. 28 between 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

Organizers say community members will be able eat their lunch outdoors while taking in musical talent from Manitoba and beyond in the Jardin de sculptures, located at 219 Provencher Blvd. Individuals are encouraged to bring chairs.

The concert schedule includes Sweet Alibi on July 3, D’Harmo (presented by the Winnipeg Folk Festival) on July 10, Paul Cargnello on July 17, JP Hoe on July 24 and John K. Samson on July 31.

There will also be performances by Del Barber on Aug. 7, Alexis Normand on Aug. 14, Red Moon Road on Aug. 21 and Marijosée on Aug. 28.

“We are very pleased to invite the public to get out in the neighbourhood and enjoy some great concerts. It’s these types of projects that help bring life to Provencher Boulevard,” said Provencher Boulevard BIZ president Oai Truong in a news release.

In the same release, Festival du Voyageur executive director Ginette Lavack Walters said the organization is “proud to support the community of St. Boniface and the music scene in both official languages throughout the year thanks to initiatives such as Mercredis en musique.”

The series is supported by La Maison des artistes visuels francophones, le 100 NONS, Université de Saint-Boniface, Caisse Financial Group, Manitoba Film and Music and Coun. Dan Vandal (St. Boniface), Lavack Walters added.
