One local entrepreneur is excited to be taking to the stage of the Royal Winnipeg Ballet this holiday season.
Constance Menzies, a.k.a. Chocolatier Constance Popp, is among this year’s celebrity guests scheduled for a walk-on, cameo role in RWB’s Nutcracker. The classic holiday favourite will be returning to the Centennial Concert Hall (555 Main St.) from Sat., Dec. 19 to Mon., Dec. 28. Menzies is slated to appear during the opening night performance at 7 p.m.
The show will include Tchaikovsky’s traditional holiday score, performed by the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, and feature RWB’s dancers. Organizers say the performances will include endearing Canadian scenes including a snowy pond hockey game and a scene on parliament Hill, as well as 13 polar bears.

To enhance the collaboration factor and celebrate the festive spirit, Menzies told The Lance she will be selling chocolate nutcrackers at her St. Boniface-based shop and during the performances.
“As we at Chocolatier Constance Popp love the Royal Winnipeg Ballet and this cherished ballet, Nutcracker, I am super thrilled to be a special guest with the ballet on opening night,” Menzies said.
