Hey there, time traveller!
This article was published 24/11/2021 (555 days ago), so information in it may no longer be current.

The winter solstice is a few weeks away, but we are already enjoying our first snowfall. The season’s first snowstorm brought much-needed moisture, which benefits everyone, as we have just been through one of the driest summers in a while.

Lower amounts of precipitation left many rivers shallow and affected many who live along the banks of the rivers. Wildlife, farms, and towns rely on the water that flows through the many rivers in Manitoba. Locally, those who live along the Seine River, home to many outdoor enthusiasts, will hope to see more water in the river next season.

Take Your MLA to Work Day is a wonderful initiative dedicated to showcasing the skills and abilities of Manitobans with disabilities in the workplace.

This year, as part of the SCE LifeWorks program for youth at work, I was able to visit Red River Co-op in St. Norbert and had the pleasure of meeting Bethany. Over the course of my visit, I was given a tour of the workplace, shown the tasks Bethany does, introduced to her employer and co-workers, and heard the story of her employment. I enjoyed meeting Bethany and seeing her excel in her workplace.

This day is intended to raise awareness of the benefits of hiring Manitobans with disabilities and also to encourage employers to adopt more inclusive hiring practices,by highlighting the contributions of Manitobans with disabilities to the workforce.

This year’s St. Norbert Remembrance Day ceremony was held virtually. Veterans, community members, family, friends, and students participated in the pre-arranged video taping held earlier this fall, in the St. Norbert cemetery by the cenotaph.
Thank you to tall he volunteers who organized and scheduled attendees and to Art Bloomfield and his family for their dedication to ensuring the 13 young men whose names are on the cenotaph are honoured every year.

With the holidays are fast approaching, craft sales have begun. The Dakota Christmas Craft Sale, held on Nov. 6, showcased the work of many crafters and their talents. The St. Norbert Arts Centre is about to host a month of Winter Wonderland activities in honour of its 30th anniversary.

On Sunday afternoons throughout December, SNAC will showcase artists and offer outdoor activities for visitors.

Aurora Farm and Friends will host a Yuletide Artisan Market on Dec. 18 and 19, with hot chocolate and a bonfire lit to warm all guests. Visit www.snac.mb.ca for more information.

The local greenhouses have many holiday displays and offer craft classes for those wanting to add a personal touch to their holidays. There is something for everyone.
