Sometimes in life, it’s the little things that mean a lot.
That’s according to St. Vital-based writer and photographer Cendrine Marrouat, who has just released her new book titled Life’s Little Things: The Quotes.
The book, which was officially released on July 25, is Marrouat’s third photography book and 10th overall. It’s the second book in her Life’s Little Things series.
"Each page is an invitation to reflect on the human condition and our never-ending connection to nature," Marrouat, 39, said, adding that quotes "have been part of the human fabric for a very long time."
"They inspire us to become better people, especially when they are paired with photography that tells multi-layered stories. The idea of the book is to pair images with words of wisdom. In the modern world, I’ve noticed there is more negativity and that people are more depressed and stressed, and I think it’s important that people are able to reconnect with themselves through images of nature and positive words, think more positively, slow down sometimes and find their inner rhythm."
Marrouat — who is originally from Toulouse, France, and immigrated to Canada in 2003 — has channelled some of her own experiences into the creation of her latest book, which makes the experience an intimately personal one for her.
"For example, I went through a very rough patch in my life, but I always kept positive and tried not to lose sight of what was important and what really matters in life," said Marrouat, who is also a French instructor and is scheduled to teach older adults at Creative Retirement Manitoba in the fall.
"It’s about spending time with family and friends and enjoying the simple things and good moments like walking in the park, which can be shared with others or enjoyed alone. I think we tend to make life complicated for ourselves and I think our surroundings mean that kids have to think like adults at a younger age now. Of course, there are many different factors now, but I remember things being so much easier when I was a kid."
There is a distinctly collaborative aspect to Marrouat’s new book, as she asked visitors to her website to help choose the photos she ultimately used for the book and individuals were able to vote for their favourites online.
Marrouat said her previous published works include five collections of poetry and two e-books about social media.
