Community members are invited to an information session focusing on the future of the Canoe Club Golf Course.
The drop-in session will be held on Wed., Nov. 29 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the gym at Glenlawn Collegiate (770 St. Mary’s Rd.).
At the event, individuals will be able to provide comment on preliminary plans for the reimagining of the course after more than 1,000 individuals responded to a survey this summer, as previously reported in The Lance.
According to a news release, responses to the survey were mixed between those who want to maintain a golf course and those who want to share or use the space for other recreation. At this time, the City plans to retain the majority of the golf course while seeking opportunites to enhance current facilities, share the space, and incorporate additional activities, and would like further feedback on these options.
The City owns the 48-acre golf course, and leases out operations and maintenance of the course for five-year terms. The current lease to a private operator will expire in April 2019. Officials say $1 million has been set aside in the 2019 capital budget forecast, which could be used to fund amenities on the site, subject to future approval.
