An upcoming event that promises to exercise the brain will be more than a little trivial.
Individuals are invited to join the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba for the seventh annual Trivia Challenge, presented by Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries, which will be held on Tues., Oct. 20 at 6:30 p.m. at Club Regent Casino Event Centre (1425 Regent Avenue W.). The event is a fundraiser to support the society’s programs and services for individuals affected by dementia, as well as a search for the cure.
Teams of 10 will compete in 10 fast-paced rounds of trivia to battle it out to become champions. Registration is $30 per person, as well as an option to collect pledges, to support the work of the society. Organizers say each team that raises $500 or more in pledges above its registration fees will make it into the VIP club, which includes prime seating, a round of complimentary drinks and an appetizer platter for the team. Participants can register as a team (with a maximum of 10 people per team) or as an individual.
Norwood West resident Wendy Schettler, the society’s CEO, said the upcoming event has a dual purpose.

The Alzheimer Society of Manitoba’s CEO Wendy Schettler says nearly 22,000 Manitobans currently have Alzheimer’s disease or another form of dementia.

"It’s the perfect place to challenge your brain and socialize with others, both of which can help reduce the risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease or another dementia," Schettler said in a news release.
"Last year, 25 teams participated with over $21,000 raised. We have a larger venue this year, so we hope even more teams come out."
