The list of local and arterial roads scheduled for maintenance or rehabilitation in southeast Winnipeg this year has been released.
According to a recent news release, a record investment of $116 million has been budgeted city-wide for 2018 for planned roadwork or projects to be completed in the area.
In addition, several streets budgeted for work in 2017 that was delayed due to factors such as the volume of construction activity and snowfall are also scheduled this spring.
Notably, work on the Fermor Avenue bridge and roadway began on May 2. As previously reported in The Lance, the work will take place on the section of the busy transportation corridor between St. Anne’s Road and Archibald Street, including the bridge over the Seine River, which is in poor condition and needs to be rehabilitated. Intersection improvements and enhancements to the active transportation network are also planned.
Officials say the bridge and roadway will be rehabilitated in two phases, starting this year, as part of a $29 million-plus investment, which includes a pedestrian tunnel underneath Fermor.
According to the release, there are numerous roads in the St. Boniface ward and the St. Vital ward that are scheduled for maintenance or complete rehabilitation this year.
In the local street renewal program, the streets in the St. Boniface ward include Aubert Street from St. Joseph Street to Tache Avenue; Tache Avenue from St. Mary’s Road to Lyndale Drive; Howden Road from Harper Avenue to Betournay Street; and Cottonwood Road from Monaco Bay to Lagimodiere Boulevard; and the streets in the St. Vital ward include Darwin Street from Riel Avenue to Riverbend Avenue; Whitley Drive from Hawkins Crescent to Ashworth Street; Knightsbridge Drive from Meadowood Drive to Knightsbridge Drive West; Haig Avenue from Des Meurons Street to Egerton Road; Heresford Crescent from Novavista Drive to Hawkins Crescent.
Streets in the lane renewal program in the St. Boniface ward include Beaverhill Boulevard, Orchard Lane, and Shoreview Bay; and in the St. Vital ward include Dunkirk Drive, Pulberry Street, Arden Avenue, and Parkville Bay.
In the TBO program, the streets in the St. Boniface area include Island Shore Boulevard from Leger Crescent to De La Seigneurie Boulevard; De La Seigneurie Boulevard from Lessard Place to Pauline Boutal Crescent West; Blue Mountain Road from Royal Mint Drive to Royal Park Crescent North; and Minaki Bay on Vermillion Road; and the streets in the St. Vital ward include Homewood Drive from Sterling Avenue to Knightsbridge Drive; Kennington Bay on Novavista Drive; and Bethune Bay from Darwin Street to Wright Street.
Streets in the regional street renewal program include Fermor Avenue from St. Anne’s Road to Archibald Street, which extends into both wards.
