There are times when walking in someone else’s shoes can help the community.
The upcoming fundraiser titled In Someone Else’s Shoes will be held on Sat., Sept. 30 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Norwood Hotel (112 Marion St.).
The event, which is part of Culture Days Manitoba, is in support of Uniquely Manitoba, a non-profit organization that helps Manitoba artists, craftspeople, and specialty food producers develop their products to become market-ready.
According to www.uniquelymanitoba.ca, "Manitoba-made products are second to none in the world and through this program we ensure our gift producers meet the highest standard in product development and marketing."
In Someone Else’s Shoes will feature an all-day art display and sale with free admission that will showcase the work of numerous local artists including authors, potters, painters, photographers, and jewelry artists.
The fundraiser will also include a selection of musical guests, and there will be a musical performance every 30 minutes throughout the day. Scheduled performers include The Sole Singers and The Rockin’ Hillbillies.
Renowned jewelry artist and metalsmith Krista Reid, who will have two tables at the event, is looking forward to being part of the collective spirit and energy in the room on Sept. 30.
"It’s a peer art and craft event that’s not about commerciality, where I’ll be surrounded by other artists, so I’m looking forward to the experience," Reid said.
"It’s also great because there will potentially be a wide variety of people coming to the event who will get to check out my jewelry. My audience is across the board, whether it is little kids, men or women," she added, noting she primarily works with silver, but also works with gold and gemstones, too.
Reid said her bestselling signature items feature nature and wildlife themes, cultural and symbolic designs, and sporting themes.
Key organizer and St. Vital resident Joy Winter-Schmidt, the event’s creator and producer, will also be among the exhibiting artists and will be showcasing her acrylic paintings, greeting cards, and copies of her book Spikey’s Points.
