Sherbrook Street Festival celebrates 10 years, bike lanes

Rain, shine, or construction, the Sherbrook Street Festival is happening.
The 10th annual festival, presented by the West Broadway BIZ, is taking place on Sherbrook Street between Wolseley Avenue and Westminster Avenue on Sat., Sept. 6 from noon until midnight. Admission to the event is free.
“It started as sort of a celebration of West Broadway and all of the people who live and work here,” Leah McCormick, executive director of the West Broadway BIZ, said.
Something new at the festival will be the unveiling of the parking protected bike lane. According to a release, the lane, which runs for three blocks, will open before the date of the festival.
For the past couple of weeks, Sherbrook Street has been undergoing road resurfacing, but McCormick told The Metro on Aug. 27 that the construction will be done before the festival.
The Sherbrook Street Festival will feature bands which will play from noon until midnight. Inna Riddim, Woodshed Havoc, Attica Riots, Nathan Music Co., and Papa Mambo are some of the many performers scheduled to play on the all-day main stage.
McCormick said there will be a second stage with kids’ entertainers, such as the Fun-Key Ducks, a musical group for children, who will perform at 3 p.m.
The Flaming Trolleys will hold a parade at 4:30 p.m.
More entertainment for kids includes face-painting, bouncers, arts and crafts, and a circus skills workshop. Art City will provide a photo booth for the event.
Attendees will also get the chance to see The Muppet Movie (1979) which will be screening at the outdoor bike drive-in at the Charisma strip mall at dusk.
“In addition to that, there will be lots of booths for local organizations and other organizations within the city to give out information,” McCormick said. “We’re very excited that it’s the 10th annual, and we’re hoping to get a huge crowd out.”
