I hope this finds everyone staying warm and getting through the recent stretch of snow and cold weather.

Let’s think positive… not much longer to go!

Speaking of positivity, I had the great pleasure of attending the 10th annual All Seniors Care (ASC) Games at the Shaftesbury Retirement Residence at the beginning of the month. I have been honoured to have been included in this event since its’ inception.

The annual ASC Games creates wonderful memories for participants, family members and guests each year.

This year the Games were held at 30 ASC Retirement Residences across Canada from Feb. 4 through Feb. 8. The Games provide thousands of older adults the opportunity to participate in friendly competition to help them stay healthy, active and “Go for Gold!”

The line up of events for residents include Walking the Hallways, Wii Bowling & Archery, bocce, billiards and petanque, Wii Golf & Shuffleboard, cards and board games.

At the opening ceremonies this year I was once again welcomed by an atmosphere of friendship, warmth and inspiration. This year’s theme was Dance, Dance, Dance and we were treated to a fabulous performance by a troupe of residents who strutted their stuff on the dance floor!

The ASC Seniors Games are the result of the planning and hard work of a large team of employees and residents led by Event Planner Ronna Goldberg. Ronna was the driving force behind the creation of the ASC Seniors Games 10 years ago. Every year she comes up with a new theme and co-ordinates the events for the week. She is such a dedicated member of the ASC team and her enthusiasm is just simply contagious to everyone involved.

At the kick-off this year I was surrounded by community leaders as well as ASC chief operating officer/principal Lily Goodman, ASC vice-president of operations Tricia Charles, senior executive director
(Shaftesbury RR) Cheryl Holmes, regional health and wellness director Brandi Hanna and all of the amazing staff and residents from the Shaftesbury.

Another highlight of the event was my introduction to a new member of the Shaftesbury RR team, comfort dog Duchess. I was so impressed by her calm and loving demeanour which you could see from the reaction of residents, staff and guests alike as she interacted with all of us during the course of the ceremonies.

My sincere congratulations and admiration to the entire team at All Seniors Care and at the Shaftesbury Retirement Residence for their dedication to the health and wellness of their residents. I look forward to being a part of their next great event!
