Winnipeg Mayor Sam Katz and city councillors honoured veterans of the Korean War and members of Winnipeg’s Korean community on Oct. 29 at a reception at city hall marking the 60th anniversary of the Korean War armistice.
The Korean War lasted three years and ended on July 27, 1953. Nearly 26,000 Canadians served in the conflict and 516 lost their lives.
The Government of Canada has declared 2013 the Year of the Korean War Veteran.
