Team Manitoba announced its roster for the 2022 Canada Summer Games.

The 370-person team, which includes athletes from track and field to basketball to box lacrosse and more, will travel to the Niagara region of Ontario to compete in the Games from Aug. 6 to 21.

Beach volleyball player Erika Vermette, a 21-year-old Collège Jeanne-Sauvé alumna currently attending University of British Columbia, has been selected as Team Manitoba’s flag bearer.

“It’s such an honour to be selected to lead Team Manitoba into the opening ceremony,” Vermette said in a statement. “This is my first Canada Games, and I am looking forward to the whole experience – on and off the court. I’ve been training for years for this opportunity and I’m excited to get back into competition coming out of the pandemic.”

Vermette is joined by Jordan Soufi, a Miles Macdonell Collegiate alumnus who runs with the University of Manitoba Bisons track team, and Sydney Nachtigall, a soccer player and recent Glenlawn Collegiate graduate, among other east Winnipeg athletes representing Manitoba at the Games. The team also includes 90 coaches, managers, and technical support staff, and 25 mission staff to participate in all 18 sports.

At the last Canada Summer Games, which Winnipeg hosted in 2019, Team Manitoba won 42 medals: 10 gold, 15 silver, and 17 bronze.
