Nicholas Parrott is a 17-year-old Grade 12 student at Churchill High School. Away from school, he spends a lot of time training for and playing his two favourite sports — basketball and football.

“I started playing football when I was in Grade 5. I started basketball when I was in Grade 7,” he says. “Basketball is my favourite of the two. There are a lot of parts to the game that I really enjoy. There are a lot of things away from the game that I really enjoy. My mom and dad both played the game, as well, so that makes it special to me.

“I play football for Churchill, and I made the final roster for Team Manitoba. Running back is my primary position. With basketball I play for the Northstar Preparatory Institute I play point guard and shooting guard.”

Nicholas Parrott is a Grade 12 student at Churchill High School who hopes to earn a university football or basketball scholarship.

Kobe Bryant is Nicholas’s all-time favourite athlete.

“He viewed and thought the game differently than everyone else,” Nicholas says. “His approach and his mentality are what I like most about him.”

Nicholas and his dad Greg, mom Donna, brothers Greg Jr., Anthony, and sister Ariane live in the Maples. Nicholas is very thankful for his parents and family.

“Thank you for inspiring me and letting me see people who have been successful with university sports,” he days. “Thank you for inspiring and helping me to be all I can be. Thank you for us having such a loving family.”

Nicholas is very focused and serious about his future.

“My dream is to play at a professional level in either football or basketball. My dream is to make a name for myself. My next step is to move forward after high school with a football or basketball scholarship,” he says.

He says he also enjoys his scholastic pursuits.

“The school year moved by quickly last year. This upcoming year I am focused on getting good grades for university next year. I want to be expanding my knowledge and working towards becoming a better person. Biology is my favourite class. I love science. How the body works is very fascinating to me.”

Nicholas has a bright future in front of him and he offers this to young athletes:

“Always have confidence in yourself. Never have doubt in yourself.”
