On Sept. 14 the West Kildonan Horticultural Society and the West Kildonan Legion Branch No. 30 celebrated the 100th anniversary of the battle of Vimy Ridge, and Canada’s 150th anniversary of Confederation, by planting a Vimy Ridge Oak tree — a direct descendant of oak trees at Vimy Ridge. Kildonan-St. Paul MP MaryAnn Mihychuk arranged the acquisition and approval for the tree to be planted at the arboretum at Partridge Avenue and Powers Street.
