Hidden behind the trees at southeast corner of Pipeline Street and Templeton Avenue, a new school is being constructed.
It is the second school in five years to be built in the area by the Seven Oaks School Division as it works to meet the needs of the fast-growing district.
The kindergarten to Grade 5 French/English dual-track school and daycare is located at 1310 Templeton Ave., in the huge
Ambergate residential development.
The attractive, 55,300-square-foot building will accommodate 450 students and 63 daycare/nursery spaces, with the potential to expand the school to house 600 students and increase the daycare spots to 80.
Overcrowding in the nearby A. E. Wright and James Nisbet schools will be eased when the new school is opened. It will also eliminate the need to bus students to schools outside of the area.
The large school playground will feature several all-season play structures and the school entrance area will have an oversized drop-off loop with a total of 10 bus spaces. There will also be 75 parking spaces.
Construction is on schedule, and the school will be opened in September 2020.
The school will serve an English catchment area north of Leila Avenue and west of Pipeline Road, including the Ambergate development. It will also serve a substantial portion of Amber Trails for French immersions.
The design is similar to that of the recently opened Amber Trails School a few blocks west, featuring abundant natural light, multi-use breakout spaces and a gym and common areas designed for community use. This new-generation design is meant serve a dual function as a school in the day and a community centre in the evenings and weekends.
