Tickets are selling quickly for the Domain Theatre Group’s annual dinner theatre production.<\/p>\n

This year the amateur theatre group is performing The Young and the Rest of Us<\/em>. Director Janice Harrison said the play was originally a musical developed by Stonewall’s Quarry Choristers and performed in spring 2012.<\/p>\n

“We adapted it to be more of a comedy,” she said. The script is derived from the long-running soap opera, The Young and the Restless<\/em>.<\/p>\n

As of Jan. 8, tickets were still available for the Fri., Jan. 31 evening dinner performance and the Sun., Jan. 26 luncheon matinee.<\/p>\n

This is the company’s 12th annual performance, and local residents have come to look forward to this annual fundraising event, held each January to bring in the money needed to pay for the Domain Hall’s operating costs.<\/p>\n

Harrison has been involved in the company since her daughter Jodi resurrected it in 2002. She said she is missing the directorial talent of former Domain resident Shirley Cole, who moved into Winnipeg last year.<\/p>\n

This year’s cast has 16 members, four of whom are school-aged. Jenna Erb, 14, is one of the young performers, but she’s already in her fourth year with the company.<\/p>\n

“It’s a lot of fun,” she said. “It’s something that I love to do.”<\/p>\n

She attends Sanford Collegiate, and while the high school students put on a play each year,<\/p>\n

Erb said the older students usually get the roles, so she appreciates the chance she’s offered by the Domain Theatre Group.<\/p>\n

Alison Leonzio, of La Salle, said she’s watched the young cast members, like Erb, gain self-confidence and improve their performance skills.<\/p>\n

“It’s incredible to watch them grow,” Leonzio said.<\/p>\n

She’s in her seventh year with the group, and is pleased to be cast in a female role (Belinda Carlyle) this time. A versatile performer, she’s assumed a few male roles in previous years.<\/p>\n

Denis Litster is a familiar face for those who make a point of attending the annual dinner theatre. In his 13th performance, he said he’s now stepping back to let the younger actors take the lead roles.<\/p>\n

Asked why they are willing to volunteer dozens of hours of their spare time to
rehearse and perform, Erb, Leonzio and Litster said that the group is like a family and they enjoy their time together.<\/p>\n
