Do you want to build a snowman?<\/p>\n

St. Norbert resident Wayne Casper did. The 53-year-old built an 11-foot-tall snowman in his front yard just off of Grandmont Boulevard. This is the third year Casper has been building snowmen in his yard, but never one quite so large.<\/p>\n

“I’m not sure what happened here; he just got big all of a sudden,” he joked.<\/p>\n

Casper said he built the snowman as a way to beat the winter blues and get outdoors.<\/p>\n

“I always feel like I don’t do anything in the winter so I decided I’d go out and build a snowman,” he said. “I was doing it more to get some exercise.”<\/p>\n

But the snowman has also become an attraction for the community. According to Casper, people stop by the property to check out the snowman regularly.<\/p>\n

“I watched a truck drive by, backed up and then the windows came down, and I could see these faces sticking out the windows,” he said with a laugh.<\/p>\n

Casper estimates the snowman took about 10 hours to construct over a three-day period. He used plywood moulds to pack the snow into and then carved out the snowman’s shape with a wood saw.<\/p>\n

“I had so much fun building this one, so I’d like to do one for as long as I can in our front yard,” Casper said.<\/p>\n

He’s also putting out the challenge to his neighbours to populate the block with snowmen next year.<\/p>\n

“I’d like it to become the snowman cul-de-sac in the south end.”<\/p>\n
