June 9, 2015 meeting highlights\n• Whyte Ridge Community Centre received a $10,500 land dedication reserve (LDR) at the June 9 Assiniboia Community Committee meeting for landscaping and Phase 2 of the centre’s interpretive trail project. This LDR is the most recent commitment from the city for the project, which has contributed a total of $84,500 since June 2014.\nAccording to documents submitted to the city, the project includes a 500-square-metre tall grass prairie, a butterfly garden with a small trail, 23 native trees and 150 saplings, four interpretive signs and two benches as well as a resurfacing of all the crushed limestone pathways on the site.\nSo far the centre has installed new trees and one bench, completed the butterfly garden, and resurfaced the pathways. The additional $10,500 LDR will be used to expand the tall grass prairie by 400 square-metres, and plant more trees, among other items.\nThe request was passed unanimously by Couns. Morantz (Charleswood-Tuxedo-Whyte Ridge), Gillingham (St. James -Brooklands-Weston) and Dobson (St. Charles).\nWhyte Ridge Community Centre president Robyn McCarthy said the interpretive trail project will be completed this fall and is a great addition to a well-used path in the community.\n“People are walking that trail constantly and it’s a great path to FortWhyte Alive as well,” McCarthy said. “So people are using it all the time, and now they have something beautiful to look at.”\nMcCarthy says the centre is also looking at establishing the path as part of the Trans-Canada Trail.\n•Assiniboia Community Committee approved a $250 per capita grant from the Charleswood-Tuxedo-Whyte Ridge ward  the ‘Councillor Marty Morantz Citizenship Award.’ The award is given to a graduating Grade 12 student from Shaftesbury High School.\n• Plans for a Montana’s Cookhouse in the Seasons of Tuxedo were approved unanimously at the June 9 meeting.
