\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tDuring construction of the spa, the course’s former clubhouse was torn down and the putting green was lost. This year marks the first season golfers have had access to the brand-new pro shop and 40-seat dining room connected to Thermëa.<\/p>\n
St. John, an avid golfer and member of Crescent Park Rescue (CPR) citizens group, is happy to see the facility open and is inviting golfers down to the course to take advantage of the new space before taking to the green.<\/p>\n
“It’s only a par three but it’s so beautiful in the neighbourhood and the city keeps it up so beautifully,” she said.<\/p>\n
“We want people to come and make it a success.”<\/p>\n
Since the opening of Thermëa — an $11-million privately owned spa built on city land — next to the golf course, St. John and other members of CPR began advocating for further collaboration between the city, the spa and the neighbourhood to enhance the experience.<\/p>\n
“We want things to be run properly and we want feedback from the neighbours too,” she said. “We want to hear from the neighbours about any concerns that they have about it because this is totally changing the neighbourhood.”<\/p>\n
According to St. John, more parking for the course would be good for the neighbourhood. She said traffic and parking issues are becoming evident as the spa gains in popularity.<\/p>\n
“We want to make sure that there are enough spaces and we don’t want (cars) to park on the street. That’s the big thing,” she said.<\/p>\n
Chief operating officer for Winnipeg Golf Services Alan Shane confirms they are considering more parking in the area but are first studying the need for it over the summer.<\/p>\n
In the meantime, the city is installing a new putting green in the southeast quadrant of the course in early August.<\/p>\n “The putting green that we’re designing isn’t going to be flat. It’s going to have some contours in it; it’ll be fun to practice on, there’s going to be some slope to it,” Shane said.<\/p>\n The city is also looking at updating the course’s walkways, rebuilding the first tee, and creating a patio off of the new dining room in 2016.<\/p>\n Service from Thërmea’s kitchen is also in the cards for the course. Thermëa and the city are in talks about creating a small menu to be served in the course’s dining room.<\/p>\n “We are looking at the possibility of our restaurant to offer an adapted menu and snack cards to the golf course,” Christophe Debeaumont, manager of Thermëa, said.
