\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tAt WPG Cycle, “inspirators” (class instructors) enhance the experience with hand-picked tunes pumping through the speakers and a dimly lit room complete with a disco ball, together creating a high-energy environment.<\/p>\n
“We are a little bit different in the fact that we ride to the beat of the music. We don’t track RPMs, we don’t track your miles, your distance or any of that,” Weiss explained. “We really want to create an environment where everyone belongs, everyone can feel comfortable, and it’s not competitive.
“We want everyone to come, move, listen to some great music and have fun.”<\/p>\n
While originally from Winnipeg, Weiss and Murray were living in Calgary where they became hooked on spin classes. Two years ago on a trip home to visit family, Weiss said she couldn’t find boutique spin classes in Winnipeg and recognized an opportunity.<\/p>\n
“So I joked with Jamie about opening a spin studio in Winnipeg,” she explained. “I laughed and here we are, and now I know with every bone in my body this is what I’m supposed to be doing.”<\/p>\n
While developing the brand for their new spin studio, Weiss and Murray said they wanted to be highly representative of Winnipeg, with their logo depicting the intersection of the Red and Assiniboine Rivers. When it comes to the spin class, Murray said the program is personalized by instructors who tailor the music to the mood of the room and the environment, allowing the senses to focus inward.<\/p>\n “The music and lighting and all that is to create an environment that you can feel comfortable in… and you can tune into yourself and not worry about making loud noises (like sighing) and that people are listening,” Murray said. “But at the same time, we’re all riding together, everybody is on the same beat to the music, and you get that power from the group.”<\/p>\n “It’s all about your ride and how you want to experience it,” Weiss added.<\/p>\n Classes at WPG Cycle are 50 minutes long and instructors encourage everyone to remain in the room for the duration of the program. The class starts with two tracks for a warm-up, and halfway through the playlist there is a full track for an upper body workout with weights. By the end, participants are dripping with sweat and when you hear the last track you “get all the feels,” as one rider said. <\/p>\n “You can come in, ride the class, and anyone can do it no matter what your fitness level is,” Murray said. “And it’s something you’ll find over time that you get stronger and stronger.”<\/p>\n For more information about WPG Cycle go to wpg-cycle.com.
