Skip Randy Neufeld, of La Salle, said he and his team just couldn’t knock out a guard rock on the last end of the Strathcona Trust Senior Men’s Provincial Curling Championships at Winnipeg’s Deer Lodge Curling Club on Feb. 27.<\/p>\n

The Neufeld team, which includes second Dean Moxham and lead Dale Michie of Portage la Prairie and third Peter Nicholls of Winnipeg, was defeated 6-4 by Murray Warren’s team from Brandon, Man.<\/p>\n

“They played really well. We missed a couple of chances for deuces early on,” Neufeld said. “We knew we were in trouble in the last end.”<\/p>\n

He said the Warren team played well and earned the right to represent Manitoba in the national senior men’s championship in Fredericton, N.B. later this month.<\/p>\n

Neufeld and his teammates have gathered their share of curling trophies as they won the 2015 Canada championship and competed in the international championship in Sweden in 2016, losing to the host country’s team in the final match.<\/p>\n

Neufeld said he decreased the number of games he played over the past year to about 70, compared to the approximately 125 he played in previous years, due in part to knee surgery he had a few years ago.  However, he plans on continuing to curl.<\/p>\n

“I don’t want to give it up yet,” he said.<\/p>\n
