Jan. 15 Riel community committee meeting highlights<\/strong><\/p>\n

• The Riel community committee approved a per capita grant for $200 from the St. Boniface ward allocation to the drama program at Nelson McIntyre Collegiate to help with the cost of the school’s production of Young Ebenezer — A Contemporary Telling of the Classic Tale<\/em> that was performed last month at Théâtre Cercle Molière on Dec. 18 and 19.<\/p>\n

• The committee approved a per capita grant for $250 — $125 from the St. Boniface ward allocation and $125 from the St. Vital ward allocation — to the QUEST program at J.H. Bruns Collegiate to help with the cost of an educational trip to Ottawa in the spring for a group of at-risk students who are studying citizenship as part of their high school diploma program.<\/p>\n

• The committee approved a community incentive grant for $15,000 from the St. Vital ward allocation to Glenwood Community Centre to help with the cost of its arena chiller project. The grant must not exceed a maximum of 50 per cent of the total project cost and is subject to a number of conditions.<\/p>\n

• The committee approved an application for land dedication reserve funding for $17,000 from the Riel land dedication reserve (St. Vital allocation) to the Minnetonka School Parent Advisory Council to help with the cost of its playground project. The funding is subject to a number of conditions.<\/p>\n

• The committee recommended to the standing policy committee on infrastructure renewal and public works that a traffic study be conducted to “explore improved southbound vehicle access onto St. Anne’s Road from Stranmillis Avenue or from another nearby street.” According to City of Winnipeg documents, residents in Old St. Vital have raised concerns regarding having difficulty making a left-turn from streets east of St. Anne’s Road onto southbound St. Anne’s.<\/p>\n

• The committee approved a per capita grant for $750 from the St. Vital ward allocation to Dakota Collegiate to help with the cost of the Dakota Collegiate Alumni Association’s Annual Gala Dinner. This year’s dinner, which will be the fifth annual one, will be held on April 27.<\/p>\n

• The committee approved a per capita grant for $500 from the St. Boniface ward allocation to the Canadian CMV Foundation to help with the cost of the Le Classique event, an outdoor 3-on-3 ball hockey tournament that also serves as a fundraiser for the Canadian CMV Foundation. This year’s event will take place on Feb. 9 and 10 at Whittier Park on the grounds of Festival du Voyageur.<\/p>
