Over 200 schools across Manitoba and Nunavut logged into a live-streamed event that connected Maple Leaf School with schools in Flin Flon, Man., and Iqaluit and Arviat, Nunavut. <\/p>\n<p>A dozen student made films on the theme of &ldquo;every day heroes&rdquo; were scheduled to be shown, but unfortunate technical difficulties curtailed the screenings. (SHELDON BIRNIE\/CANSTAR\/THE HERALD)<\/figcaption>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/figure>\n<p>&ldquo;It was awesome,&rdquo; Coss said. &ldquo;You feel like you&rsquo;re a part of something.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Karissa Kirkup, a hockey player for the University of Manitoba Bisons women&rsquo;s team, spoke at the event.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;It&rsquo;s important to be kind and respectful, because you don&rsquo;t know what someone else might be going through,&rdquo; Kirkup, who started playing hockey as an eight-year-old in Portage La Prairie, the only girl on an all-boys team. &ldquo;Some of the nicest people I&rsquo;ve ever met never had the nicest sticks or equipment.
