The National Research Council is investing $60 million in a new manufacturing research facility within the RM of Rosser in CentrePort Canada.<\/p>\n

The 60,000-square-foot building will house labs and office space for about 100 NRC employees, employees from other companies and university and college students, as part of the NRC’s Advanced Manufacturing program.<\/p>\n

“It is being developed as a collaborative platform so we expect that it won’t just be NRC staff,” said NRC’s vice-president of transportation and manufacturing François Cordeau.<\/p>\n

He anticipates the facility will accommodate joint research in aerospace, automotive and food processing, as well as incorporating digital technology in manufacturing processes, among other research areas.<\/p>\n

Cordeau said the NRC has discussed new research opportunities with the provincial government, local businesses and post-secondary facilities, and said collaboration has been positive.<\/p>\n

He said the CentrePort facility will be similar to one now being constructed in Mississauga, Ont.
Cordeau said the NRC has selected the site in CentrePort’s Brookside Park and will purchase it after the developer finishes installing water, wastewater and other services expected by September. The building design is being finalized, with a tender for construction to be issued in January and construction to start in March 2019. The building should open in early 2021.<\/p>
