Naylor wins Wolseley <\/div>\n
NDP nomination<\/div>\n
Winnipeg School Division trustee Lisa Naylor will be the NDP candidate in Wolseley for the next provincial election. <\/div>\n
She beat out Melissa Bowman Wilson at a packed nomination meeting at Gordon Bell High School on May 14.<\/div>\n
Naylor is a longtime resident of the neighbourhood and has been a trustee in WSD’s Ward 4, which includes Wolseley, West Broadway and downtown, since 2014. <\/div>\n
The provincial election is currently scheduled for October 2020. Other NDP nominations in west Winnipeg to date include, Joe McKellep in Assiniboia and Kurt Morton in Kirkfield Park.<\/div>\n
Conference to discuss faith, race <\/div>\n
and queerness<\/div>\n
The first-ever Queer and Faithful conference is scheduled to take place at R.A. Steen Community Centre on May 25 and 26. <\/div>\n
The event, which is part of Winnipeg Pride Week, will highlight the voices of 2SLGBTQ+ people of colour and their experiences with faith and spirituality. <\/div>\n
There are two panel and roundtable discussions scheduled where attendees will be able to share their own experiences on topics like belonging, family, resilience, hope, pain, hiding, privilege and intersectionality.<\/div>\n
Saturday speakers include Charlotte Nolin, Muhammad Ahsan, Tia Oberoi, L.S., moderated by Mary Basta and Jennifer Stadtmiller. On Sunday, Chantal Fiola, Ava Garfinkle, Dione Haynes, and Dieth Aquino will take part in a panel, moderated by Shayna Plaut and Bradley West. Jenna Tenn Yuk will be delivering the keynote and a workshop. <\/div>\n

Club to host plant auction<\/div>\n
Get your green thumbs ready, the Charleswood Garden Club is hosting its annual plant auction on May 23 at Westdale Community Centre (550 Dale Ave.)<\/div>\n
The event offers gardeners a chance to bid on a wide variety of bedding plants, perennials and hanging baskets. The auction is led by Garden Club member-auctioneers who will provide entertaining and helpful garden advice throughout the evening. <\/div>\n
The auction starts at 6:30 p.m. and runs in conjunction with a bake and garage sale. <\/div>\n

Pie for a good cause<\/div>\n
Pie lovers and bakers will have a chance to celebrate the sweet treat on May 30, during the inaugural Pie Pop-up at Deer Lodge Community Centre.<\/div>\n
Full homemade pies will be sold for $10 each, while a slice and a cup of coffee will by $5. All of the proceed from the event will go to support The Main Street Project. <\/div>\n
Local chefs and professional bakers will have goodies available for purchase at a pie auction beginning at 7:30 p.m. <\/div>\n
The event is zero-waste, which means attendees are asked to bring a clean plate, coffee cup and utensils. <\/div>\n
The event runs from 6 to 9 p.m. at the community centre located at 323 Bruce Ave. E.<\/div>\n
