Later, the did post-graduate studies at the University of Manitoba.<\/div>\n<div id=\"_mcePaste\" style=\"width: 1px;height: 1px;overflow: hidden\">After working in the Transcona-Springfield and River East Transcona School Divisions for over 32 years, Altomare said he chose to run for office because of a commitment to education.<\/div>\n<div id=\"_mcePaste\" style=\"width: 1px;height: 1px;overflow: hidden\">&ldquo;I&rsquo;m passionate about education,&rdquo; the 55-year-old father of two said. &ldquo;I don&rsquo;t want to see cuts continue. Right now, our society and world are changing, but the one thing most Canadians have in common is a public school experience. It needs to be fully funded.&rdquo;<\/div>\n<div id=\"_mcePaste\" style=\"width: 1px;height: 1px;overflow: hidden\">While Altomare conceded that the reopening of the Concordia Hospital ER is chief among his concerns, he also spoke strongly about investing in education.<\/div>\n<div id=\"_mcePaste\" style=\"width: 1px;height: 1px;overflow: hidden\">&ldquo;We need to invest in our kids, because they are the ones who are going to become taxpaying, contributing members of society,&rdquo; he said. &ldquo;The best, most effective way to do that is early, when you&rsquo;re transitioning into school. Things like KinderLinks, things like making sure kids are fed and have proper nutrition as (they) enter school, and have that continue as they go through school. Those things are really important.&rdquo;<\/div>\n<div id=\"_mcePaste\" style=\"width: 1px;height: 1px;overflow: hidden\">Altomare also highlighted what he perceives as a lack of acute care beds for seniors in Transcona.<\/div>\n<div id=\"_mcePaste\" style=\"width: 1px;height: 1px;overflow: hidden\">&ldquo;We&rsquo;re the least serviced area in the city, for people who are getting older and need to transition to a personal care home,&rdquo; he said. &ldquo;The expansion of the Park Manor Personal Care home was cancelled by this government.
