Two young actors are utterly thrilled to play parts in an upcoming performance of the musical Disney’s Frozen Jr., including a preview of the show at a Frozen Fun Fair in Riverview in March.<\/div>\n
“I’m so excited,” said Eva Gould, who has the part of young Elsa. “Frozen is the Disney movie for my generation. And Elsa is my favourite character.”<\/div>\n
Chloe Waldie, who plays young Anna, echoed that. “When I heard we were going to do Frozen Jr., I jumped up and down. I love dressing up as Anna. I love to sing the songs and read the books.”<\/div>\n
The Frozen Fun Fair is being presented by Winnipeg Studio Theatre’s StudioWorks Academy on March 1 at the Riverview Community Centre. <\/div>\n
The event will feature three excerpts from the musical, skating with Anna and Elsa and other characters, ice cream treats, and a photo booth with the characters, according to Brenda Gorlick, associate director of the Winnipeg Studio Theatre Company and director of the StudioWorks Academy.<\/div>\n
“As a resident of the community, I am happy to bring together a variety of local arts groups and businesses to help bring Frozen to life, both as a prequel event and onstage,” Gorlick said. <\/div>\n
“Our current cast of 34 emerging artists represent schools from throughout Winnipeg and beyond the Perimeter, and range in age from 10 to 21. Six of our company members live in the Fort Garry-Riverview neighbourhood. The students are part of a 36-week intensive training program which culminates in the Frozen production.”<\/div>\n
The Frozen Fun Fair helps raise funds toward the musical’s production costs, Gorlick said. <\/div>\n
“More than that, it’s a party. Our students will be doing excerpts from scenes in the musical such as Let it Go, For the First Time in Forever, and Do You Want to Build a Snowman? throughout the afternoon,” she said.<\/div>\n
Frozen Jr. is a musical with music and lyrics by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, and book by Jennifer Lee, based on the 2013 film of the same name. <\/div>\n
The original Frozen saw newly-crowned Queen Elsa accidentally using her power to turn things into ice to curse her home with infinite winter, while her sister Anna teamed up with a mountain man, his playful reindeer and a snowman to change the weather conditions. Frozen 2 came out in late 2019. The cast of Anna, Elsa, Kristoff, Olaf and Sven left the kingdom of Arendelle to find the origin of Elsa’s powers. <\/div>\n
The musical will be presented May 21 to 23 at the Tom Hendry Warehouse Theatre.<\/div>\n
