If you’re seeking any unique curiosities, then you’ll want to mark your calendar for a spring craft show like none other. <\/div>\n
Mother of All Dragons Spring Craft Show 2020 is slated for Sat., March 28 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the St. James Civic Centre (2055 Ness Ave.). <\/div>\n
Fantasy painter Kari-Ann Anderson came up with the idea for the event, which features a theme of steampunk, science fiction, fantasy and pop culture. The title for the craft show incorporates a reference to Game of Thrones while also connecting it to springtime and Mother’s Day.<\/div>\n
“One thing I have always said is that if I was going to ever put on a craft show, it was not going to be a run-of-the-mill normal craft show,” said Anderson, who lives in the Corydon area.<\/div>\n
“So far, I’ve held two themed Christmas craft sales and this will be the second spring one. Last year’s spring sale brought in more than 400 people, and I expect that this one will be busy too.”<\/div>\n
Anderson’s original motivation was to provide another themed option for artists and crafters besides setting up booths at local comic conventions. <\/div>\n
“We’ll have close to 50 tables with artists, authors, comic book creators, different crafters and makers plus a few vendors,” Anderson said. <\/div>\n
“The only condition is that it has to fit with the theme. They’ve got to have things that are either sci-fi, fantasy, steampunk or pop culture.”<\/div>\n
For those who aren’t familiar with steampunk, it’s a sub-genre of science fiction or fantasy that is inspired by Victorian steam-powered machinery. <\/div>\n
“It’s a lot to do with imagining a world that didn’t go past steam-run things. You get to wear the corsets and the cute little hats, so the costumes are awesome,” Anderson explained. <\/div>\n
“It’s a really cool concept, with hot air balloons and things with lots of gears and other mechanisms.”<\/div>\n
The event will feature steampunk-themed booths with jewelry as well as lighting made from black pipe and other recycled materials.<\/div>\n
Attendees can also look forward to seeing fantasy-fuelled fairy gardens, gem trees, anime-inspired artwork and whimsical watercolours. Other offerings include pet fashions, out-of-this-world acrylics, “geekery” giftware, upcycled clothing, dice bags reminiscent of Dungeons and Dragons — and so much more.<\/div>\n
