My perception is that St .Vital residents are doing a very good job of staying home and practising social distancing.&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div id=\"_mcePaste\" style=\"width: 1px;height: 1px;overflow: hidden\">While I do not wish to minimize the crisis, I do want to provide some positive news about projects coming to St. Vital as a result of the recent City budget, which I supported:<\/div>\n<div id=\"_mcePaste\" style=\"width: 1px;height: 1px;overflow: hidden\">&bull; Funds for road resurfacing are now $130 million per year, quadruple the rate of spending when I was first elected. Many residential streets are due for repaving in St Vital, and work is planned on regional roads such as Dunkirk Drive, Dakota Street and St. Anne&rsquo;s Road;<\/div>\n<div id=\"_mcePaste\" style=\"width: 1px;height: 1px;overflow: hidden\">&bull; The budget provides $41 million to rehabilitate the St. Vital bridge (which spans the Red River from DunkirkDrive to Osborne Street), mostly in 2023-24. This will include improved pedestrian and bike access;<\/div>\n<div id=\"_mcePaste\" style=\"width: 1px;height: 1px;overflow: hidden\">&bull; Bonivital indoor pool is slated for a $5.4 million modernization (great work on this by St. Boniface Coun. Matt Allard);<\/div>\n<div id=\"_mcePaste\" style=\"width: 1px;height: 1px;overflow: hidden\">&bull; Greendell and Glenwood community centres will each receive $80,000 for hockey rink board projects (Windsor received a similar amount last summer);<\/div>\n<div id=\"_mcePaste\" style=\"width: 1px;height: 1px;overflow: hidden\">&bull; Bonivital Soccer Club will receive $80,000 to improve its field house at Memorial Park (west of Glenlawn Collegiate);<\/div>\n<div id=\"_mcePaste\" style=\"width: 1px;height: 1px;overflow: hidden\">&bull; Sage Creek will benefit from two new tennis\/pickleball courts in Ron Duhamel Park;<\/div>\n<div id=\"_mcePaste\" style=\"width: 1px;height: 1px;overflow: hidden\">&bull; Three new play structures are on the way, at Norberry-Glenlee Community Centre (city to match Dan Vandal MP&rsquo;s $100,000 grant); Greenwood Park next to Dr. D.W. Penner School; and Ron Finlay Park near Windsor School;<\/div>\n<div id=\"_mcePaste\" style=\"width: 1px;height: 1px;overflow: hidden\">&bull; St. Vital Park is set for a new garage\/staff house worth $2.6 million in 2021, opening up space for a new amenity near the park exit;<\/div>\n<div id=\"_mcePaste\" style=\"width: 1px;height: 1px;overflow: hidden\">&bull; In conjunction with Coun. Markus Chambers (St. Norbert-Seine River) and the Bonivital Minor Baseball Association, there will be major upgrades to a baseball park in the River Park South area;<\/div>\n<div id=\"_mcePaste\" style=\"width: 1px;height: 1px;overflow: hidden\">&bull; the accessible dock project for the Seine River in the Royalwood area is set for $50,000 from St. Vital ward funding.<\/div>\n<div id=\"_mcePaste\" style=\"width: 1px;height: 1px;overflow: hidden\">There are other measures in the budget which will also benefit St. Vital, including a new $350,000 annual budget for maintenance of gravel back lanes.&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div id=\"_mcePaste\" style=\"width: 1px;height: 1px;overflow: hidden\">These are very challenging times, but city councillors are working well together to address the crisis.
