The Headingley Regional Chamber of Commerce served up some financial relief for three high school graduates at their chamber luncheon on Sept. 16.<\/div>\n
From the left, the chamber’s treasurer, Ray Louie, stands with this year’s Leaders of Tomorrow scholarship recipients Alyssa Wiebe, Alyssa Moon and Tristan Mackid. The chamber awarded each graduate with $1,000 for their post-secondary educations.<\/div>\n
Normally, the students would receive their awards at their graduation ceremonies. However, since the ceremonies didn’t happen as normal due to the pandemic, organizers invited the three to the luncheon at The Gates On Roblin to celebrate. The students were chosen out of nine applicants.<\/div>\n
They had to be residents of the Rural Municipality of Headingley or have a family member of a chamber business partner. They also had to show academic achievement and volunteerism.<\/div>\n
Wiebe graduated from Westwood Collegiate in June and is now enrolled at the University of Winnipeg to become a teacher, according to the chamber’s website. Moon graduated from St. Mary’s Academy and entered University 1 at the University of Manitoba. Mackid, a Westwood Collegiate grad, is studying commerce at the Asper School of Business at the U of M.<\/div>\n<\/p>\n
