I am writing today to provide an update about plans for the former Windsor Park Library and fire hall site.<\/p>\n

The City of Winnipeg plans to consolidate two existing fire halls at that location to build a brand-new and expanded, state-of-the-art facility.<\/p>\n

In 2018, city council adopted the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Master Plan, which outlined a plan for keeping the agency from lagging behind community growth and development and instead maintaining or enhancing service as the community grows.<\/p>\n

That plan recommended the consolidation of Station 9 (Marion Street and Panet Road) and Station 15 (Autumnwood Drive and Cottonwood Road) into a single, enhanced station which would allow the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service to deploy resources more efficiently across Winnipeg, and to improve service levels in the St. Boniface and Windsor Park neighbourhoods.<\/p>\n

The site for this consolidation is the current Station 15 in Windsor Park, and the land under and around the former Windsor Park Library, which was replaced with a brand new beautiful library facility on Archibald Street a few short years ago.<\/p>\n

The old library building is past its useful lifespan, and the present firehall has some design flaws that inhibit its fast and efficient use by firefighter paramedics.<\/p>\n

On Aug. 11 the request for proposals for  the WFPS Amalgamated Station at 9-955 Cottonwood Road was closed. A subsequent report and study will design a new station and plan.<\/p>\n

This will enable continued emergency response coverage in Windsor Park and St. Bonifac, and the redeployment of an engine and crew to provide coverage to the Waverley West community.<\/p>\n

This is consistent with the recommendations contained in the WFPS Standards of Response Cover and Master Plan reports that have been communicated to council.<\/p>\n

I look forward to engaging further with the community and the WFP department on the detailed plans for what I am certain will be yet another high quality, state of the art facility invested for the benefit of Windsor Park and St Boniface.<\/p>
