On June 8, the River East Transcona School Division announced that Sandra Herbst will be the new superintendent\/CEO of the division starting Aug. 1. A former teacher, vice-principal, and assistant superintendent with the former Transcona-Springfield School Division and RETSD, Herbst has been working for the past 12 years in consulting.<\/p>\n

Current superintendent Kelly Barkman announced his retirement earlier this spring.<\/p>\n

“We are very pleased to welcome Sandra back to the RETSD family,” board chair Jerry Sodomlak said in a statement. “We are confident the stability and strength of the team under Kelly’s leadership will continue to thrive under Sandra’s guidance. We are impressed with Sandra’s extensive work with provincial legislation and developing system policies, as well as her ability to communicate ideas in ways that inspire, bring clarity and build commitment.” <\/p>\n
