HEADINGLEY<\/p>\n

The rural municipality of Headingley will have a familiar face take over the mayor’s office this election season.<\/p>\n

Jim Robson has been declared elected by acclamation as Headingley’s next mayor. Robson, who has served as a councillor-at-large for the RM for 22 years, will take over from current mayor John Mauseth, who did not seek re-election.<\/p>\n

“I’m looking forward to serving Headingley residents for another four years,” Robson said. <\/p>\n

“There’s always more we can do. We have tremendous enthusiasm in Headingley from the residents and the businesses.”<\/p>\n

As Robson transitions into the new role, he plans to continue providing a “high quality of municipal services” at a moderate tax rate. These services, Robson said, include fire and first response, as well as recreational facilities. He pointed to the Headingley Grand Trunk Trail and the baseball diamonds as standout projects.<\/p>\n

Robson said he’ll continue networking with the RM’s 14 community groups to hear their needs and to engage them with city council’s work.<\/p>\n

Looking ahead, Robson wants to maintain the community’s semi-rural feel, while supporting the business community and focusing on creating a locale where older residents can age in place. Robson also said he’ll continue his work to expand daycare services for young families.<\/p>\n

Climate change and climate resiliency are also top of mind for the longtime politician, as the community experiences what he described as unprecedented flooding following years of drought.<\/p>\n

“In some cases, we have to look at putting in larger culverts or raising road levels,” said Robson, who is chair of the Cartier Regional Water Co-op, the organization that supplies water to Headingley.<\/p>\n

Headingley residents will head to the polls on Oct. 26 to vote for four council members. The five candidates in the running are Paul Brault, Blaine Clapham, Yolande Franzmann, Glenn Reimer and Tom Roche.<\/p>
