Variances regarding reduced front-and side-yard size, and minimum lot area per dwelling were also approved, to allow for the construction of a six storey, 99-unit residential mixed-use building on site, which was formerly the home of a 7-Eleven.<\/p>\n<p>Coun. Jason Schreyer (Elmwood-East Kildonan) noted that the building would be higher than any other nearby buildings. Final plans will need to be approved by the committee before construction begins.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;It is right to have this development here,&rdquo; Schreyer said. &ldquo;I believe this is the best I can do.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>A subdivision and rezoning application for 463 and 465 Edison Ave., to consolidate a newly aquired piece of land with the existing properties, which are zoned for large multi-family development, was also approved. The application met with no opposition.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, a public hearing was held for an excess animal permit, to allow for eight cats for a term of five years, for Franjo Bogovic at 32 Trudell Bay.<\/p>\n<p>During the regular meeting, land dedication reserve funds of $4,000 were approved towards costs of the proposed Mother Earth Nature Park on Gunn Road in Transcona.<\/p>\n<p>Plans were also approved for an expansion at Springs Christian Academy at 595 Lagimodiere Blvd.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, &ldquo;Dardania&rdquo; was added to the East Kildonan-Transcona street name reserve, following a presentation from members of the Albanian-Canadian Community of Manitoba. The Kingdom of Dardania was a third-century kingdom centred around present-day Kosovoa, and included parts of Albania.<\/p>\n<p>Community funding for Rainbow Stage&rsquo;s upcoming production of <em>Ma-Buhay!<\/em>, with $17,000 in per capita grants ($10,000 from Transcona, $7,000 from Elmwood-East Kildonan) was also approved.<\/p><div class=\"collageplus\"><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The East Kildonan-Transcona community committee met on April 8.
