After several successful years and over $20,000 raised for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, the brains behind Charleswood’s Halloween Haunt are extending their charitable efforts with a comedy fundraiser at Rumor’s Comedy Club on Aug. 31.<\/p>\n

Organizers aim to sell 160 tickets, according to Horst Habeck, who puts on the annual Halloween Haunt with his wife, Carmele. Fifty per cent of all proceeds from the comedy event will be donated towards the Canadian chapter of Make-A-Wish, a long-standing charity which supports children with critical illnesses. If they’re able to sell 125 tickets, there will also be a 50\/50 on the night.<\/p>\n

The evening’s headliner will be Ian Fidance, a New York-based comedian and writer whose first special, Wild Happy & Free<\/em>, was released earlier this year.<\/p>\n

The Habecks were inspired to expand their efforts beyond Halloween by a similar event that raised money for Oak Park High School’s graduation, Horst said. It seemed like a natural way to go.<\/p>\n

“(We thought) that might not be a bad idea to bring up a few extra dollars for it,” Habeck said. “Something different. It’s a fun evening out, it’s going to a good cause. It’s a win-win situation.”<\/p>\n

“We never know what we’re going to get around Halloween towards those donations, right? So it’s just a bonus, if we go up and beyond.”<\/p>\n

Alongside the comedy event, the Halloween Haunt will still be up and active again come October, Habeck said. Last year, owing to low temperatures during the spooky season, the interactive set, based on Disney’s Haunted Mansion, <\/em>experienced some malfunctions, with the projector often going on the fritz. This year, Habeck is hoping for a better shot, and teased the inclusion of a graveyard keeper watching over the entire site.<\/p>\n

Showtime on Aug. 31 is 7:15 p.m. and tickets, which cost $20 each, can be purchased by emailing hhabeck@outlook.com<\/a><\/p>
