Winnipeg city council’s Riel community committee held a brief meeting on Oct. 30.<\/p>\n

Plans to redevelop the old St. Boniface Normal School, a heritage building, at 210 rue Masson into a multi-family development, including seven studio apartments, 23 one-bedroom apartments and one two-bedroom apartment, were approved. The proposal includes 33 exterior parking stalls, three of which are accessible, and 10 indoor bike parking stalls, while two existing parking stalls in front of the building will be landscaped over to provide street-facing greenspace. Much of the existing details and components are to be preserved, where possible, to retain the character of the building. Trees and shrubs on site are also to be preserved, with additional trees and shrubs to be added.<\/p>\n

Walter Kleinschmit, president of Héritage Saint-Boniface and a neighbourhood resident, spoke in support of the plans, saying he was “delighted” with the project and its attention to preserving the historic elements of the building.<\/p>\n

On Oct. 30, the Riel community committee approved plans to renovate the St. Boniface Normal School at the corner of Masson and Aulneau to a multifamily housing project within the historic building.<\/p><\/figcaption>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/figure>\n

“It’s nice to see this come to what appears to be a conclusion that everyone is agreeable to,” Coun. Matt Allard (St. Boniface) said.<\/p>\n

Plans for new signage at 712 Langevin St., a commercial property, was approved.<\/p>\n

A $1,000 per capita grant to Glenwood School for its school sports programs via Coun. Brian Mayes (St. Vital) was approved.<\/p>\n

Additionally, four new appointees were nominated to serve on the St. Boniface Museum board of directors. They are Shelly Glover, Serge Balcaen, Denis-Michel Thibeault and Brigitte Bouchard.<\/p>
