Every spring, Manitoba releases its provincial budget, outlining the government’s financial plan for the upcoming year. In 2024, we introduced One Manitoba<\/em> — a bold plan to ensure that no Manitoban is left behind, regardless of where they live or what challenges they may face. This year, we’re building on that foundation with the next chapter of our vision – Building One Manitoba<\/em>. This plan reflects our continued commitment to investing in people and communities through increased support for healthcare, seniors, education, and protection against U.S. tariffs.<\/p>\n

Budget 2025 includes $3.7 billion in capital projects — the largest capital investment in our province’s history. These investments support vital infrastructure and services that directly impact everyday life. Central to this budget is our focus on health, seniors, and long-term care, following up on strong commitments made last year. We’re allocating $1.2 billion to this crucial field, marking a 14 per cent increase from last year’s budget. This significant investment is part of our broader goal to rebuild Manitoba’s healthcare system and ensure all Manitobans receive timely, high-quality care.<\/p>\n

A key part of this year’s budget is the provision of $40 million to increase direct-care hours in long-term care facilities and hospitals, ensuring that people get the care they need, whether at Victoria Hospital or in their communities at home. We’re proud to have passed the Seniors Advocate Act last year, allowing for the appointment of an independent seniors advocate. This year’s budget provides the necessary funding to make this role a reality. The hiring process is currently underway, and we anticipate the advocate will soon be in place to help ensure seniors receive the services they need and deserve, with their voices heard and rights protected.<\/p>\n

Education and early childhood learning remain top priorities. This year’s budget includes over $14 million for infrastructure renewal in public schools, including the renovation and expansion of J.H. Bruns Collegiate to provide additional classroom space for the growing Lagimodière community.<\/p>\n

We’re also increasing the availability of affordable childcare across Manitoba. To support working parents, we’re extending the $10-a-day childcare program to include non-school days — a move that will ease pressure on families and ensure kids have safe, enriching care year-round. Through Nello’s Law (nutrition equality for lasting learning outcomes), we’re also supporting student success by creating a universal nutrition program in schools so that no child has to learn on an empty stomach.<\/p>\n

We’re protecting Manitobans from U.S. tariffs by strengthening trade and growing our economy. That includes cutting payroll taxes, opening a Manitoba trade office in Washington, D.C., and launching a new Indigenous loan guarantee program to support wind power development and create thousands of jobs.<\/p>\n
