It also requested that final plan approval come back to the committee before construction could begin.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;This is a great area,&rdquo; Coun. Jeff Browaty (North Kildonan) said in support. &ldquo;This is a well-thought-out development that I think will be a benefit to our neighbourhood.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>A second public hearing was held regarding a combined subdivision, rezoning, and variance application for 1820 De Vries Ave., to build a proposed 179-unit multi-family development. The property, currently zoned for manufacturing, would be rezoned for medium-density residential.<\/p>\n<p>One resident spoke in opposition, citing concerns about increased traffic and parking.<\/p>\n<p>The committee recommended approval of the application.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;It looks like a quality build,&rdquo; Browaty said in support of the proposal.<\/p>\n<p>During the regular meeting, plans for a standalone, single-car garage at 20 Dr. Michael K. Grace Ln., were approved. Plans were also presented for new landscaping at Kildonan Place Shopping Centre (1555 Regent Ave. W), which would include an increase in trees from previous proposals.<\/p>\n<p>An extension of time was granted for the subdivision and rezoning of 500 Regent Ave. W, until Dec. 12.<\/p>\n<p>A $500 per capita grant, from the Transcona ward, was approved for UMEarth&rsquo;s global engineering brigade&rsquo;s trickle filter research project in Guatemala this year.<\/p>\n<p>A request to upgrade a pedestrian crossing on McLeod Avenue, between Gateway Road and Molson Street, to a flashing beacon crossing was also moved by the committee. A request was also moved to consider twinning Molson Street from Concordia to Grassie Boulevard and\/or Concordia Avenue East from the overpass to Peguis Street, with the inclusion of bike lanes, to help mitigate traffic problems in the area.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Northeast Winnipeg doesn&rsquo;t get the same attention when it comes to major traffic upgrades&#8230; that other parts of the city would get,&rdquo; Coun.
