Winter in Winnipeg is meant to be enjoyed, and on Sunday, Feb. 15, the Elwick community grounds will come alive with movement, laughter, and community spirit. Community partners and I will host an afternoon of skiing, skating, and snowshoeing for residents of all ages. This mobile ski event is fun for the whole family, and everyone is welcome to attend.<\/p>\n

From 2 to 4:30 p.m. at the community centre located at 44 Maberley Rd., families and residents are invited to drop in and experience the joy of winter recreation in a fun, supportive, and inclusive environment. Whether it is your first time attending or your fourth, this free community event is designed to give everyone the chance to get active and try something new.<\/p>\n

The Winnipeg Trails mobile ski library will provide access to cross-country skis, skates, and snowshoes, with freshly groomed ski trails ready for participants to explore. No prior experience is needed, and all equipment is provided at no cost. Adaptive ski equipment will also be available, ensuring that people of all abilities can participate fully and comfortably.<\/p>\n

This event is about removing barriers and giving families the opportunity to enjoy Winnipeg winters together. By bringing the ski library directly into the community, outdoor recreation becomes accessible, welcoming, and enjoyable for people of all ages and abilities.<\/p>\n

The ski library operates on a first-come, first-served basis, with a wide range of equipment sizes available. While waiting for equipment, residents are encouraged to take in the lively community atmosphere, connect with neighbours, and enjoy the outdoor setting. Participants can also warm up inside the community centre with complimentary hot chocolate.<\/p>\n

This event would not be possible without the dedication and collaboration of our community partners. Many thanks to the Maples Youth Activity Centre, led by Bryan Fedorowich, and Winnipeg Trails, represented by Anders Swanson. Maples Community Centre has been wonderful in partnering on programming for our youth.<\/p>\n

Events such as this reflect what makes our neighbourhood strong – people coming together, supporting one another, and finding joy in shared experiences. I encourage everyone to bundle up, bring friends and family, and join us for an afternoon of winter fun.<\/p>\n
