Earth Day falls on Wednesday, April 22 this year and Winnipeggers can observe and participate in several events and activities around town.<\/p>\n

The Forks looks to be the busiest hub for Earth Day activities. This year\u2019s celebrations are titled Repair Together, and the focus will be on finding ways to keep your stuff going a little bit longer.<\/p>\n

\u201cRepair is a critical step towards a circular economy and an ethos that aligns with environmental stewardship,\u201d said Helga Jakobson, sustainability co-ordinator at The Forks, in a statement.<\/p>\n

To that end, The Forks is presenting a Fixing Fashion show in the evening, featuring 16 local designers tackling the challenge of transforming pre-loved textiles into something new and different, and Fixing Fashion market will run all day. In addition, ArtsJunktion is running a crafting zone; Louis Winter is running a patching workshop \u2014 the All You Can Patch Buffet; the folks from the W.R.E.N.C.H. will be doing bike repairs; Mother Earth Recycling will be accepting e-waste in the parking lot; and Turtle Days will run Earth Day editions of its tours. Assiniboine Park Zoo is running Earth Day-themed events for children and families on April 25 and 26 between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., featuring planting and crafting workshops, zoo chats and zoo tours. Sat., April 25 is Astronomy Day at Assiniboine Park with both daytime and nighttime observation sessions, and at The Leaf on April 22, the Leaf After Dark features an adults-only concert with guitarist and wildlife biologist Emily Thoroski, who\u2019s known as The Environmental Musician.
