After much prayer, deliberation and reflection with my family, I recently put my name forward to be re-nominated as the NDP candidate for Kildonan-River East for the next provincial election. Thank you to everyone who showed their support during my recent re-nomination meeting in March.<\/p>\n

Neighbours, with your support, I am ready to continue working with the provincial government team to improve the lives of the people of our community.<\/p>\n

I recently had the privilege of bringing forward a resolution calling on the federal government to develop a unified, nation-wide Silver Alert strategy. Since Earl Moberg, who was living with dementia, tragically went missing in December 2023, our Kildonan-River East team has been working closely with the Winnipeg Police Service, city councillor Jeff Browaty (North Kildonan), Matt Wiebe, the provincial minister of justice, and Uzoma Asagwara, the minister of health, seniors, and long-term care.<\/p>\n

Neighbours from across Winnipeg and Manitoba joined in with Kildonan – River East MLA Rachelle Schott and others during the search for Earl Moberg in spring 2024.<\/p><\/figcaption>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/figure>\n

I commend the Moberg family for channeling their grief into advocacy to help other families. I hope and pray that the Manitoba legislature can unanimously support seniors and move this forward to call on the federal government. In the past few weeks, the Manitoba Progressive Conservatives have expressed support for the resolution but refused to let it pass. Please look up your local MLA at electionsmanitoba.ca\/en\/Voting\/MyVotingInfo<\/a> and contact them to tell that protecting seniors should be non-partisan and collaborative work for all elected officials.<\/p>\n

I attended an announcement recently with Premier Wab Kinew and Health Minister Asagwara for the new Manitoba Menopause Clinic, which will open in 2027. This is a direct result of what we’ve heard from neighbours, who voiced that this is a top priority for them. Manitobans know who they can trust on health care. Promise made, promise kept.<\/p>\n

I urge each of you to create an account at medinav.ca<\/a>, the online portal which assists Manitobans in booking medical appointments and being seen promptly when you or your loved ones need medical attention. If you try this online on your own and need a bit of help setting up an account, please contact our office by calling 431-478-1667.<\/p>\n

When an illness or injury arises, we need to utilize the new tools available here in northeast Winnipeg. Concordia Hospital has an extended hours clinic, which is open evenings, weekends and holidays, offering care for everything from sore throats and infections to chronic condition management. You can enter the clinic through the main entrance rather than the urgent care department doors on the right.<\/p>\n
