Brian Mayes finally has a chance to serve a full term as the councillor for St. Vital, Winnipeg’s most populous ward.
Mayes, 52, was first elected to council in 2011, when he won the byelection to replace Gord Steeves, who resigned mid-term to seek provincial office.

He was re-elected Wednesday by defeating challenges from Steven Hennessy and Glen Churchill.
Mayes said he sees the new-look council as a chance to mend some divisions in the city.
"I think there’s an opportunity to be more collegial – to try to sit everybody down and see what we can work on together," he said.
