In Terra Musicalis, everyone sings. Like, all the time. About everything, no matter how mundane. It annoys Gus (Caelen Rondeau), the one person in this musical land who hates musicals, to no end. And so, his friends try… to make him like musicals? That’s essentially the premise of what seems to be a parody of a musical, but actually functions slightly better as a straight-ahead musical comedy. Julia Kroft has a voice made for musical theatre and Ben Krawchuk is charming as the conceited douchebag with a heart of gold, Dakota Heartland — but the performances, although strong, were often too quiet. And while there were big laughs and catchy songs, the plot was incredibly flimsy. It was hard to understand how the characters were related to each other, what their motivations were, and why we should care about them. You still need all those fundamental ingredients, even in a "stupid musical."
