There’s a problem in apartment 14G — it’s been rented to two strangers simultaneously. And so begins the hilarious, incredibly acrobatic, 45-plus minute physical comedy that is Terms & Conditions, by Long Beach, Calif. troupe Bossy Flyer.
The two new roomies — one a type-A personality and the other more of a free spirit played by Cynthia Price and Taylor Casas — decide they’ve got to try and make it work. They butt heads on everything to do with their new pad before things get better, then worse, then way worse, with comedic confrontations and plotting eventually recalling Looney Tunes arch-nemeses.
There’s little dialogue — most of the speaking parts consist of half-sentences and muttering combined with vivid facial expressions, somehow adding to the humour and the charm of both characters. And once those characters’ bodies get moving, the acrobatics are spectacular. The action culminates with a fight scene featuring breathtaking gymnastics while retaining the quasi-madcap physical humour established at the outset.
There’s audience participation and some breaking of the fourth wall, with one attendee getting dragged on stage and into the confrontation, adding to the overall joy and the imaginative nature of the performance.
