For one hour, Carlyn Rhamey takes the audience on a tour of her brain, her childhood and the trials of ADHD in this one-woman story. Starting with some embarrassing home video clips, she leads us through her diagnosis in Grade 3 ("It was the first time I felt I’d failed") through "Spec Ed" classrooms ("I met a bunch of weirdos I could relate to!") through applying for accommodation for her condition in college ("The doctor thought I wanted to get Ritalin to sell it") to eventual acceptance.
While at times it comes off as somewhat hyper (the dreaded H in ADHD) and choppy, it nonetheless provides insights into ADHD you’d never think of unless you were personally acquainted with the disorder or someone living with it.
The ending, a heartfelt shout-out to parents of ADHD children and an appreciation of her own parents’ turmoil, ("My mother... didn’t want them putting a lid on the box she could see they were forcing me into") wraps it all up nicely.
