At least 79 homes in Brandon East were given incorrect information about where to vote today, through an NDP flyer sent to homes in the region.

"There was a flyer distributed to some homes with incorrect voting locations," Elections Manitoba communications manager Alison Mitchell told the Sun late this morning. "Mr. (Drew) Caldwell’s campaign office has since issued an apology for the incorrect information."

The flyer directed voters in voting area 41 to the Riverview Curling Club on Maryland Avenue, when in reality they are supposed to vote at the Bethel Christian Assembly at 440 Richmond Ave.

According to a fax sent by Mr. Caldwell’s campaign office to Elections Manitoba, the flyers were distributed to approximately 79 homes on White Ash Drive, Orchard Way and Aspen Drive.

Mitchell did not know when the flyers were delivered, but stated that Caldwell was advised of the situation last night.

Caldwell doesn't believe the misdirection will cause any problems.

"I don't think so because we collected it all when the polls opened this morning," he said. "A drop went out to that constituency first thing this morning.

Andrew Tod, NDP spokesman, said the flyers were sent to the wrong home in error.

"A mistake was made, and incorrect information was left at 79 houses on three streets in Brandon East last night," Tod said. "The campaign realized the mistake late last night, corrected the information this morning, and apologized to the households affected."

Mitchell said that at least a few voters had already gone to the incorrect location to vote, based on the information provided by the flyer. But Elections Manitoba was aware of the situation, as of last night.

"Our returning officer in Brandon East was aware of it early on and advised voting officials at both locations of the error. And so, I believe that any voters who incorrectly went to the Riverview Curling Club were quickly redirected to their current voting place."

If you live on these streets, and you are unsure of where you are supposed to vote, Elections Manitoba asks any voters to call their office for the correct information, at (204) 726-6720
